Airflow engineering: from calculation to commissioning
Good airflow engineering avoids oversized fans, noisy ducts and unbalanced networks. At MECAVENT, each project starts with a study of your process: required airflow at each point, pressure losses, gas temperature and composition, dust load and noise constraints. From these data we design the complete network, select the fan and size the silencers.
We use computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to visualise flows in bends, plenums, hoods and fan inlets. CFD simulation reveals recirculation zones, uneven velocity profiles and areas of high pressure loss before anything is built, so that the design can be corrected on screen rather than on site.
Acoustic calculations
Airflow engineering and acoustics go together. We calculate the sound power of fans and the attenuation of silencers, enclosures and louvres to predict noise levels at the workstation or at the nearest neighbour, and to choose the most economical acoustic treatment.
Custom designs for complex cases
Our airflow engineering team designs special fans, transition pieces, plenums and complete air handling systems for retrofits, limited spaces and demanding processes, then follows the project through manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
Why airflow engineering pays off
A well-engineered ventilation system uses less energy, runs more quietly and needs less maintenance over its lifetime. Investing in airflow engineering at the design stage avoids costly modifications after start-up, such as replacing an undersized fan, rebalancing a network or adding silencers that were not planned. Our engineers remain your single point of contact throughout the project, from the first site measurement to the final acceptance test, so that the installation delivers the airflow, pressure and noise levels agreed at the start.
