Water Treatment

Deodorization Fans and Acoustic Enclosures for WWTPs

Water treatment fans must withstand corrosive, humid air around the clock.

The deodorization fan is at the heart of air treatment in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and water treatment facilities: it captures air laden with H2S and odorous compounds and conveys it to biofilters or scrubbing towers. MECAVENT SA designs and supplies these custom-built, corrosion-resistant fans, as well as the acoustic enclosures that reduce installation noise.

Water treatment fans for odour control and process air

In wastewater treatment plants, fans extract foul air from inlet works, sludge treatment and covered tanks, and send it to biofilters, chemical scrubbers or activated carbon units. MECAVENT water treatment fans are designed for this demanding duty: humid air loaded with hydrogen sulphide, ammonia and condensates, continuous operation and strict noise limits for nearby residents.

We build water treatment fans in stainless steel, coated steel or plastic depending on the composition of the air, with sealed shafts, drains and inspection doors. Where biogas or other flammable gases may be present, ATEX versions are available. Fans are sized precisely for the pressure losses of the treatment unit, so that odour capture remains effective without wasting energy.

Noise and vibration control

Treatment plants are often close to housing. We combine water treatment fans with acoustic enclosures, silencers and flexible connectors to keep noise and vibration within limits, and we check the results with on-site measurements.

New plants and retrofits

We supply fans for new treatment plants and replace existing units, including those from other manufacturers, helping operators maintain reliable odour control and meet the requirements of the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive 91/271/EEC.

Fans Designed for Corrosive Air

Air extracted from a WWTP is humid and laden with hydrogen sulfide (H2S), highly aggressive to steel. Our fans are manufactured in stainless steel, plastic materials, or with anti-corrosion coatings, depending on H2S concentration, humidity, and temperature of the treated air.

Deodorization: Air Capture and Transfer

We size the fans that capture air from odorous structures (pretreatment, sludge treatment buildings, tanks, sludge silos) and transfer it to the treatment unit: biofilter, chemical scrubber, or activated carbon. Variable frequency drive control allows airflow to be adjusted to actual needs and reduces energy consumption.

Ventilation of Buildings and Technical Rooms

Adequate air renewal protects personnel from hazardous gases and preserves electrical equipment from corrosion. We propose ventilation solutions tailored to each room, including areas adjacent to ATEX-classified zones such as digesters.

Acoustic Enclosures for Blowers and Fans

WWTPs are often located near residential areas, and aeration blowers as well as deodorization fans operate day and night. MECAVENT performs on-site acoustic measurements, then designs acoustic enclosures and silencers to comply with applicable limit values (OPB in Switzerland, ICPE orders in France). Our enclosures remain demountable to facilitate maintenance.

Deodorization Fan: Frequently Asked Questions

What information is needed to size a deodorization fan?

The airflow to be extracted, the pressure drop of the treatment unit (biofilter, scrubber), the air composition (H2S, humidity), its temperature, and any ATEX classification of the zones concerned.

Which material should be chosen to withstand H2S?

It depends on H2S concentration, humidity, and temperature. Plastics and 316L stainless steel are the most common solutions: we advise you according to the actual conditions of your site.

Can you reduce the noise of an existing installation?

Yes. After an on-site measurement to identify noise sources, we propose suitable enclosures, silencers, or barriers, without replacing the equipment in place.

Why Entrust Your Project to MECAVENT?

With over 25 years of experience in industrial ventilation and acoustics, MECAVENT SA designs its fans to measure and performs their testing in its workshops. We also supply controls, flexible connectors, and acoustic treatment, and our technicians ensure on-site installation and commissioning.
